In Defense of God

People, in general, have the wrong concept of God and the Bible.  In the majority of Christian circles people have the wrong concept of God and the Bible.  If you think that God allows every devastating thing that happens on the earth, you are sadly mistaken.  Man has coined a phrase, "an act of God," to mean devastating events whether it's a blizzard, snow storm, tidal wave, tsunami, earthquake and the like.  These are not acts of God.

For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now (Rom. 8:22).

The earth is rocking and reeling like a drunken man because of sin that man leashed upon it and himself.  In this same passage it talks about the creation being made subject to vanity.  In the Greek the word vanity means what is void of truth and appropriateness, preverseness, depravty.  When Adam fell, all of creation changed, and what we are experiencing today are the effects of the fall.  The earth is upheaving and violently responding to the sin that was unleashed upon it and that includes man.  Just this month alone the number of stories in the news about murder and mayhem perpetrated on individuals was unlike anything I had heard before at one time.  The "devil doesn't make anybody do anything."  We have to give him permission to wreak havoc in our own lives because God gave us authority to have dominion over the earth.  When Adam fell, he committed high treason and bowed to Satan by listening and responding to what Satan had told the woman.  Apply the old adage, "actions speak louder than words," to Adam's actions.  God had said do not eat of the tree in the midst of the garden (Gen. 3:3).  Man broke the covenant and since God's word was out, He had to deal with those involved.  Sin is a thing.  It is not the actions that we commit.  It was unleashed in the garden.  It took hold of us and brought us under bondage.  We remain under bondage until we accept the remedy and sacrifice that God provided (John 3:16).

It can be plainly seen in Genesis 1:28 that God had a place by His side for man.  He created him in His image and after His likeness and then blessed them.  The word blessed in Hebrew means to be fruitful and to have dominion (rule). And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed (Gen. 2:8).  And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it (Gen. 2:15).  Dress in this passage means to serve God.  Keep means to guard, observe, and give heed.  It is what God does over His creation and He gave that authority to man (Gen. 1:26-28).

Look at the account of the fall in Genesis 3:6.  Man fell and when they heard the voice of God walking in verse 8, they hid themselves.  God made His omnipresence known immediately and confronted what they had done.  He dealt with Adam, the woman, and the serpent and then in verse 15 promised a remedy.  Then He made them coats of skin to cover their nakedness.  It is a picture of God's true nature, His love, and His tenderloving kindness toward creation.  He never intended for man to live in sin, and he dealt with their fall with the sacrifice of an innocent animal to point to the ultimate sacrifice of His Son.  From the beginning God was showing us the relationship that He wanted with man.  Adam was our federal head and everything that God had provided would have been passed down to every man, woman, boy and girl born after that.  But because Adam fell, all of mankind is now born into sin.  God always uses man to work His will and purposes.  Since Adam sinned, God could no longer have the relationship that He intended with man.  Man now had a fallen nature.  God is holy and He cannot look on or tolerate sin.  Every sinner needs a sacrifical lamb without the taint of sin, and God provided His Son as that perfect sacrifice.
